At first glance, the Global TV Awards can seem a bit dauting. But I have worked to wrangle the large number of eligible titles into a manageable form. If I have missed anything (and given the number of titles, I'm sure I have), email me at
Which titles are eligible for these awards:
The eligibility guidelines are straight forward:
* A show, movie, documentary or special must have been originally produced outside the United States and in a language other than English.
* The title must have premiered in the United States sometime in the 2025 calendar year. It must have premiered in its original territory no earlier than 1/1/2024.
*It has to be available on a legitimate commercial SVOD or AVOD. Not YouTube, not someone's private server.
Why did you list every eligible title, not just a smaller list of the "best" programs?
There are a couple of reasons. Partly, it's just a reflection of the large number of titles and countries. This year it is 400+ titles from over 40 countries. No one person or group of people could possibly be familiar with every title, and be able to accurately choose the "best" of them.
Also, one of my takeaways from last year is that sometimes smaller, more obscure titles really resonate with viewers. There were a few really surprising wins last year and listing every eligible title in theory gives every title an equal chance of winning.
I also list every eligible title because one of the reasons I am doing this is to highlight as many global TV shows, movies and documentaries as I can. Content discovery is a challenge across the streaming industry. But it's especially an issue with non-English language programming, which American streamers tend to often just dump onto their service with little or no warning.
I want to support these awards. What is the best way to do that?
If you are a streaming platform, producer or media company, I am accepting sponsorships and other advertising possibilities. But it is also incredibly helpful if you spread the word of these awards. And providing me as much information as possible about your upcoming programming would help a lot with next year's awards.
If you are a fan of these shows, letting other people know about these awards and encouraging them to vote is a big help. I am just a lowly independent journalist bootstrapping this idea because I love the genre. So I don't have a PR firm or marketing budget to help highlight it.
I also appreciate any financial support you are able to provide. You can buy me a cup of coffee or two at this link. Or opt for a paid subscription to my M-F TooMuchTV newsletter at this link.
